Disability Awareness Disability should not be an obstacle to success. I myself have suffered with my husband about his condition of post traumatic depression and schizophrenia for almost all of his life and not for that reason he has stopped developing an outstanding professional career in the field of construction, design and architecture and having a happy family life. Disability is part of the human condition, that is, almost all people live with a disability temporarily or permanently at some point in their lives. These consist of a deficiency, limitation or restriction to carry out activities and results from the interaction between the person who lives with it and the contextual factors. Many times the environmental barriers prevent their full and effective participation in society on equal terms with others. We must not forget that disabled people do not have a single day, but it is every day that they must be reminded that they have a right just like everyone else. We all ha

Disability Project Essay

Christina Garcia June 30, 2020 SPC1017 Tu/Th 8 am Professor: Sherri Sinkoff   Disability Project Essay                      Our project presentation began as enthusiastic as always. This project was amazing since the beginning not only because it made us realize many things about people with disabilities but also because we were contributing to something that will help not only us but many other people as well.            On the other hand, lets begging by talking about our group presentation which will address a crucial issue in society. In our presentation, we talk about chapters 8, 15, 16, and 17 with the main focus on three types of disabilities which are: Mobility Disability, Psychological Disability, and Spinal Disability.          We started this presentation day with the topic of mobility disability. This topic was introduced by Tania G. She talked about interpersonal communication and types of interpersonal communication; she also presented to us an amazing interview which she

Disabilities Presentation

Reflection of Presentations  Disabilities Vanessa D Fontalvo Professor: Sherri Sinkoff  Class: SPC1017 Date: July 1 st , 2020             First of all, I would like to start by saying this has without a doubt been one of the projects I have enjoyed doing the most. I had the opportunity to work with my group about different disabilities and at the same time listen to my classmate’s presentation with much more information about different topics. It was obvious that everyone was attentive and open to all his new information to some but yet so familiar to others who had experienced these disabilities in their life. Even though we were a bit overwhelmed at first all the work was done and the presentation came together beautifully. At times we were afraid that we were not going to be able to meet deadlines but thanks to everyone’s team work, we were able to finish the project. Group One was in charge to present about Chapter 3, 11, 12 &14 as well as Vision and Hearing-Impaired Disabiliti

Reflection 2

The second presentation was proven to be very difficult and came with many challenges. This presentation had to do with disability awareness and how it can be tied with different kinds of speeches. My part for this presentation had to do with mobility disabilities and my group members were working on spinal and mental disabilities. This presentation was not my favorite for several reasons. Firstly, my group kept me in the dark, so I was not aware of what we were planning, in other words when I asked a question no one responded to me. Secondly, our presentation was to long (over 85 slides) and caused another group their presentation time. Finally, the worst part about this entire presentation was that my group member sent me the wrong link to add my slides and she never told me that I was in the wrong link. I went to the group chat to find out what is wrong because I was not seeing anyone else’s slides and all one member said was to refresh. I refreshed about ten times

Disability Awareness Project Reflection

Perez, Ashley Professor Sinkoff SPC 1017 2 July 2020 Disability Awareness Project Reflection             Our second group project was a little different than the first project that we did at the beginning of the summer semester. To clarify, in this project we were able to discuss a topic often overlooked in society: disabilities. With this in mind, professor Sherri Sinkoff, assigned our class a project that integrated both the chapters in our COMM5 textbook and three disabilities that affect people throughout the world. As a result, my group got to chapter 8 that discussing interpersonal communication, chapter 15 that discusses delivery while presenting a speech, chapter 16 that discusses informative speaking and chapter 17 which discusses persuasive speaking. As well as that, the disabilities our group had to discuss were mobility, psychological, and spinal. Throughout this blog, I will discuss my experience with my group, our class presentations, and what I learned while accomplishin

Theme Presentation (Bryant Marrero)

Bryant Marrero  30 June 2020 SPC 1017  Professor Sinkoff  Reflection on Theme Presentations Professor Sinkoff assigned a group project to the class. Similar to the Chapter presentations, we were all in the same groups as before except we had to present a Theme presentation. The Theme presentation was assigned to each group and we each had to divide certain chapters and certain disabilities amongst ourselves. We were all given certain disabilities and we had to adapt those disabilities to the chapters we were given. Throughout each presentation, we all discussed each chapter and offered a more collaborative and interactive way to discuss the material we were given. Throughout this blog, I will be discussing what each group did in explaining their presentation by including their given chapters and disabilities. To begin, the first group to present was Group one. Group one was discussing hearing and vision impaired disabilities and they used their chapters to tie it all together and c

Disabilities Project Reflection

Tania Martinez 29 June 2020 SPC 1020 @ 8am Tu/Th Professor Sinkoff Disabilities Project Reflection         I want to start off by saying that I believe this was an incredibly significant project for me. As a disabled person myself, it was refreshing and heartwarming to have the class work on building awareness for various disabilities. I also believe it is awesome to be contributing to something that will not only stay with us, but also be implemented into further discussions on the subject. As far as each of these presentations go, everyone did a wonderful job overall on their projects and I was impressed with the vast amount of information and effort put into them.         For Group One, who I believe (correct me if I'm wrong please) presented on audio and visual types of disabilities. This was fascinating, as they had an eye-opening (pun intended) interview on what it is like to experience blindness from someone who gradually lost sight. They included a wealth of information, sh
